Rooting  refers to gaining the administrative rights of any android smart phone. Let us deal this a little generally, comparing to daily life. Consider that you are living in a rental house. You would be allowed to use the house, you can make small modifications like connecting a light bulb, fan, hammer some nails etc. You can say that it is you house. But actually, it is not. It belongs to your house owner. You will not be allowed to make any major modifications on the house like raising walls between rooms, demolishing walls etc. Similarly, now, you have a smart phone.
